Product engineering across the stack

Five years of shipping customer-facing products, backend services, data systems, live migrations, and the infrastructure needed to operate them.

Timeline

  1. Covent

Senior Frontend Engineer → Team Lead

    Present

Joined Covent, formerly Dispo Genius, as Senior Frontend Engineer and grew into Team Lead. I own frontend architecture, ship backend systems, set engineering standards, and mentor three engineers.

    • Proposed Covent MCP and led it from idea to production. The Go service shipped 23 read-only tools with OAuth 2.0 and PKCE, tenant-bound access, credit guardrails, structured logging, PostgreSQL state, analytics, and documentation. I built its EC2 delivery path with Docker image transfer, database readiness checks, backups, migrations, staged health checks, rollback, and Slack reporting.

    • Conceived and shipped Covent Spotlight, a Mac Spotlight-style search system, then extracted it into the shared @covent/spotlight workspace package adopted by Inbox and Prospecting. It coordinates local and server-backed sources, cancellation, pagination, keyboard navigation, and state preservation; Prospecting uses Fuse.js for fuzzy matching. A client called the experience a game changer.

    • Cut first-load JavaScript across six routes by deferring heavy providers, SDK-backed UI, inactive tabs, dialogs, and route-only code. Production-build route bundles fell by 26–40%, including onboarding from 482 to 295 kB and listing campaigns from 808 to 487 kB; Covent’s CEO called it a great improvement.

    • Lead and mentor a team of three while serving as frontend code owner, reviewing product and architecture work, setting engineering standards, and remaining hands-on in the codebase.

    • Owned Covent’s transition from its legacy CRA frontend to a native Next.js and React platform. Maintained the V1/V2 navigation and authentication bridge during coexistence, then removed the iframe and legacy API layer at cutover.

    • Replaced precomputed multi-agent message generation with an on-demand flow, cutting model calls by 96% in the documented case and monthly spend from about $9,000 to about $700.

    • Built the Django and PostgreSQL Prospecting Insights API end to end, including aggregate and window queries, price histograms, top-investor rankings, canonical cache keys, tests, and typed frontend integration.

    • Re-architected Investor Prospecting around live property APIs, Mapbox WebGL layers, location, pin, and polygon searches, bounded client state, stale-request cancellation, and a 10,000-property FIFO accumulator.

    • Built a real-time Inbox with virtualized conversations, reconnecting WebSockets, optimistic SMS and email, retry and rollback, attachments, translation, templates, scheduling, URL routing, and scroll preservation.

    • Designed and shipped Auth 2.0 with XState flows, durable Zustand identity, serialized token refresh, OTP, Google and GHL SSO, location selection, cross-tab synchronization, and redirect recovery.

    • Independently replaced Vercel Flags with LaunchDarkly across server-rendered and client-rendered surfaces, adding failure-safe evaluation, identity synchronization, reactive subscriptions, fallbacks, and regression tests.

    • Built guarded Vercel and GitHub Actions delivery, release and rollback reporting, Sentry observability, and E2E, Lighthouse, and Unlighthouse quality gates.

  2. Metal

    Fullstack Engineer

Owned end-to-end work across data operations, communications, draft persistence, frontend education, and platform tooling at an AI fundraising startup backed by Y Combinator and Andreessen Horowitz.

    • Delivered a version-controlled DataOps Portal in 20 days, supporting arbitrary table rendering, snapshots, field-level overrides, and relational data across layered sources.

    • Built a multi-level note-draft system end to end across frontend and backend, with Redis persistence and localStorage fallback.

    • Worked across the Networks and Communications Hub, shipped the Communications Module on deadline, and documented it in a technical retrospective.

    • Led Frontend 101 sessions for backend engineers on browser rendering, the DOM and CSSOM, React internals, and the evolution of HTML, CSS, and Next.js.

    • Built a URL-driven global settings system with Nuqs and contributed to Vitest, Playwright, LaunchDarkly, and Mixpanel foundations.

  3. Bleed AI

    Software Engineer

Worked across an early-stage AI product, agency client delivery, and my first production backend services.

    • Built UpAutomate, an Upwork job-matching product using LLM scoring, nested filters, and OpenAI APIs; it reached 150 trial users.

    • Delivered React and Next.js applications for agency clients.

  4. TimeXperts / Workforce Software

Associate Software Engineer → Software Engineer

Embedded with Workforce Software through TimeXperts, delivering enterprise time-and-attendance implementations for Canon, Ornge, and National Gypsum.

    • Refactored time-and-attendance implementations for Canon, Ornge, and National Gypsum, contributing to more than $100,000 in revenue across the three enterprise clients.

    • Built an internal Next.js Jira Comment Generator that reduced comment-creation time by 30%.

  5. ZUE

    Junior Software Engineer

Worked at ZUE, a business-process outsourcing company with roots in healthcare operations.

    • Built a client reporting dashboard that made operational and healthcare analytics easier to inspect.

    • Built an attendance and management system connected to the company’s fingerprint attendance machine.

    • Used Python to clean and normalize multi-source healthcare, delivery, and rider reports before Power BI ingestion, replacing repetitive spreadsheet preparation.

Covent Spotlight

A reusable Mac Spotlight-style search package I conceived and took from idea to production at Covent. The private workspace package composes local and server-backed sources, supports abortable pagination and keyboard navigation, and uses Fuse.js in Prospecting for fuzzy matching. It is dogfooded today, with a future npm release planned.

Earlier systems and collaborative builds

The production, academic, and collaborative systems that developed my foundations across backend engineering, algorithms, desktop software, and applied machine learning.

I started coding at 11 with Turbo C and C. By 2017, I was using Visual Basic to build a construction-cost calculator that estimated material quantities and total cost from house dimensions and local material prices. That early work developed into the systems below.
